Summer events
It’s getting busy out there, we’re even getting the weather for it! Plenty of outdoor events on their way, I hope you’re all keeping an eye on the local press, leaflets, posters, banners and all the other ways organisers try to catch your eye! I know how hard it is to make sure the right details get to the right people, but there will always be those who miss an event and some complain. If that’s you, please try not to, please try to be constructive, make suggestions, or join in; much work goes on behind the scenes to make any event happen. (Talking of which, the Wisbech Christmas Fayre is being planned for Sunday December 13th, get in touch to be a part of it!)
Upcoming events this month are the ever popular, very well organised, Gorefield show (June 13th). A traditional event with an accredited pony show and shire horse display. Also, sheep dogs, falconry and novelty dog classes! Local stalls and children’s activities including fairground games and sports races make it a full day out for all the family.
I’m involved in the Peterborough Heritage Festival, June 20th/21st, always a fantastic family event, with 300 re-enactors helping the history of Peterborough come alive. From warfare to everyday living, 3000 years of history can be found camped around the Cathedral. This year, for the first time in 500 years, there will be a genuine town centre joust, knights in shining armour and their horses, very exciting. There’s also an amazing children’s area with Fiery Jack the Jester, the Crafts Marquee, a Food Fayre and the Natural History Museum with interactive displays.
Another June event (27th ) is celebrating Fenland food and crafts, and includes micro-brewed beer, apple juice, ice cream and sausages! Crafts as well, and a skiffle band at noon. All free, and just outside Wisbech on the way to Wisbech St Mary at the Secret Garden Touring Park. Well worth a visit to see what else they’re doing there.
Please see RedBarnCreative.org.uk for more details and links to these events, also to find out about support for local artists, craftspeople and business women.
