Rose and Crown and others
Last week and this week I’ve used the Rose and Crown as a business venue. I’ve said before how great it is for afternoon tea, and I’ve enjoyed lunch there too, we really are lucky to have a place like this in our town centre. Part of its charm is that it’s such a great building, which has been very nicely renovated and is well looked after by the present owners, Jim and Rosemary Farrelly, and all their staff of course. One of whom I promised to mention, Michael, who helped set up the room and direct my visitors to it upstairs. (Oh, those stairs! Very old, so a bit uneven, but that just adds to the charm!) I was running a social media event there, for local creative business women, and the Rose and Crown provided the technology, drinks, biscuits, pens, paper, everything we’d need. Very professional, of course, but some may not expect that in the centre of our market town. That is the image we have to change and why I write this column and point out this kind of detail.
Another place that can be used for business meetings is St Peter’s Lodge, on Love Lane (st-peterslodge.org). It is also central, and room users can use the kitchen which is a useful addition to the usual business room hire, especially if you’re running a workshop as it can be used as a “breakout” room. There are other places to hire for business meetings, conferences and professional workshops of course (the Boathouse is a modern building with all facilities), but I do like to use independent places, and if they have a history behind them, that’s even better!
If you’re a local creative woman wanting to start or grow your business, please do have a look at the website and get in touch. There will be more events coming up. Also, artists and makers may like to get in touch for a future project in a similar vein. If you can’t wait, do come along to the Chambers of Commerce Social Media starter event on July 15th, email chambers@redbarncreative.org.uk
