Opera Dudes

Opera Dudes

All towns have, or should have, a local library. We are lucky that all Fenland towns have this facility.Since having children, I’ve visited libraries much more often. They are not just for loaning books, it turns out! I always knew about the research facilities, book clubs, storytelling and activities for children; but having joined the Friends group, I’ve been lucky to be a part of choosing many more events to come along to Wisbech Library (just off the Market Place and Crescent) and entertain us! We’ve already had stories from M R James and Manga drawing from Irina Richards, now we’re looking forward to Opera Dudes, a singing duo who cover the whole spectrum of entertaining music from, their website tells me, Bublé, Pavorotti, Alfie Boe; through Opera, Show Tunes and Swing. They mention Morecambe and Wise, too! It’s going to be an entertaining evening (this Saturday, May 2nd, from 7.30pm, bar opens at 7pm, tickets only £5 from the library and on the night). For an event like this to happen in a library I think is fantastic, and it’s making it a really great place to visit, with plenty of hidden gems like this within its walls.
Other events are the monthly Thursday morning talks on various subjects (tomorrow’s is showing the East Anglian Archives – really interesting historical films of the area); there’s also national events like World Book Night; reading schemes for children and adults of course. Ultimately, the library isn’t just for information and borrowing a couple of books, it’s for finding out more about the area; meeting up with like minded people, and a resource for events that cover a broad spectrum of the arts and entertainment. Just wait for the graffiti project, that’s going to be brilliant!
If you’re interested in other entertainment going on in the area, do check cambridgeshire.net, also my website redbarncreative.org.uk for those I run or am involved with (May is busy, please check as I don’t have full details as we “go to press”!)
Lorena runs classes introducing sewing and crochet to all ages; also a creative women in business club including digital skills and networking events. See redbarncreative.org.uk for more.
