Summer Events
And we’re off! I don’t know about you, but at this time of the year, it sometimes feels like everything’s happening, or about to happen. While I’m planning events for this September and December, and even next year (oh, that’s going to be a great one, just you wait and see!) Meanwhile the Wisbech arts festival The Brinks is almost with us (www.thebrinksfestival.org); “Wisbeach Day” on Sunday 5th June in the Market Place is going to be great fun, then we’ll have the Rose Fair, and that’s only up to July. I’m sure you all agree that this town has so much to offer, and we should be very proud of all the people working towards its development as a fantastic place to live and enjoy life. I often see the same people at many events working behind the scenes, and while I won’t mention all by name in case I miss someone, I can assure you that the town clerks and many councillors and their families are busy working for you, and we should support them.
Others who work tirelessly to do good things in the town include those creating the events mentioned above, as well as people like Father Paul, who is sadly going to be leaving us. I for one will miss him for his contribution to the artistic and cultural scene in the area, bringing people together and sharing his enjoyment of art and storytelling in particular. It was one of his events that prompted me to start this column, almost 18 months ago. The photo is of Fr Paul at a Big Story day, part of a previous Arts Festival, he acted out all the scenes, very entertaining; I always enjoyed helping so I could enjoy the stories too!
One more thing that’s coming up soon, this Saturday in fact, is the Opera Dudes at the library (wisbechlibraryfriends.org.uk), pop in or call 0345 045 5225 to book. It’s a really enjoyable night out, plenty of amazing singing of all styles, and lots of “witty banter” – that phrase really does suit them! I look forward to seeing you there.
