October 2016
With a little help from my friends at the Town Council, I’ve got extra events to chat about this week. The new calendar they have on their website is great, really useful for knowing what the council does and its regular meetings, but also many events and activities are being added, showing that Wisbech is a busy town with plenty going on for everyone. I think we’re steadily getting the word out to stand up against the bad press we usually receive (which is why I write this column). Local lady Ann Hine was invited onto BBC Cambridgeshire to talk about the Poetry Trail and Poetry Challenge, and she came across really well, letting everyone know what we’re up to in the far reaches of the county!
Events on the Calendar that I knew about are the Family Research Day at the library, this Saturday 15th October – a great opportunity to talk to experts in family research and use online facilities for free. Also the Fabric Sale, Saturday 22nd October at St Peter’s Church Hall, 9am til 3pm, with a toy stall, a diecast cars stall, and refreshments. This is a lovely idea to raise funds for a worthy cause while giving home diy and crafts enthusiasts fantastic high quality material at great prices.
While double checking details of these two on the Council website, I found a Country and Western Music event and a Flute and Harp Duo performance. They’re both on this Friday (at different venues!) so choose your music and have a great night out. (Country and Western with Merv and Maria tickets available from Etcetera, with the event at the Tower Ballroom, 8pm. Acacia Flute and Harp Duo, presented by the Wisbech Music Society, at Trinity Methodist Church, Church Terrace, starting 7.30pm, £10 adults/£7 students/accompanied children free).
The photo this week is of some of the children who enjoyed a sewing class at Wisbech Castle. I’m hoping to continue holding them there, it’s a lovely venue and I’m pleased to be supporting its use as a community building, so “watch this space” and get in touch if you want to be involved.
If you or your children are interested in beginners’ sewing classes, or want to learn to crochet, please do email me for times and prices.
