Autumn 2016
The sun is still shining – this photo was taken recently, with the lovely flowers from Wisbech in Bloom still thriving. It’s definitely turning to Autumn, though, with a little chill in the air. This time of year is full of chances to see beautiful skies, and enjoy the countryside around us. We’re lucky we live so close to the coast as well as having our own farming landscape to walk through and enjoy. I know it’s a busy time of year for those that work with the land, big farms as well as smallholdings, I’m not too romantic about the countryside, but I do find the Fen landscape a relaxing place to be, and right now is a perfect time to get out and see it.
For those of you who love history and especially ancient history, I hope you’re reading this on the Wednesday or Thursday morning so you still have time to rush to the Museum and see the Must Farm exhibition! If you don’t know what that is, go along on either day and find out about local people thousands of years ago. I’m particularly interested in the textiles they found, and will be adding some information about them to the Made in the Fens display upstairs at the library.
Another “must do” at this time of the year is visit an orchard – the tea room on Redmoor Lane towards Begdale/Elm (across the A47 at the Tesco end of town) is a favourite, but if you know of any others that are open for visitors to walk around (and hopefully buy some fruit), please do let me know.
Although it’s almost a month away, I would like to mention the storymaking event at the Library as it carries on from my last article, including the Reading Tree. Thankyou to Jan for getting in touch by the way: in answer to your question, The tree’s cupboards should be opened every morning, and labels are going to be produced to help explain the concept. As for learning how to make your own stories, both writing and illustrating, it starts 22nd October. There will be two artists helping families create a story of their own, in their own language, and then follow up workshops too. It looks like a fantastic free event, I look forward to seeing the results!
