Fayre, Crafts and Christmas 2016

Fayre, Crafts and Christmas 2016

Just since I last wrote this column I’ve had more people get in touch to talk about new projects and events. With everything going on across the area, from Peterborough to Norfolk, I’m finding myself booking people and places up to October 2017. The Wisbech Christmas Fayre team will meet in the new year to discuss both this year and next, so that will take me up to December 10th ! (put it in your diaries…) Thankyou to everyone who commented how much they enjoyed this year’s event.

With apologies to regular readers for repeating myself, I would like to mention the “Made in the Fens” project I’m running, anyone is welcome who is a maker or artist living and working in the Fens, from Lincolnshire through Cambridgeshire to Norfolk. Over the holiday break the website will go live and it would be great to have people join in there, as well as get in touch if they run workshops, or would like to. The other network I’ve enjoyed setting up and would like to expand is The Penelope Club, so any creative women who would like to run a business or do more with what they’ve got, just let me know and I can invite you to the next meeting, we’re a friendly bunch, come and join us.

After asking last time for suggestions, I had a lovely email from a toy shop in March, so I must visit them, but thought it worth mentioning now in case of any last minute shopping needs! I know Prams and Toys in Hill Street, Wisbech have a fantastic variety, so go to your nearest, but Outer Rim Toys of March, on Station Road (01354656544), sound great too, and they’re both just the kind of places that keep market towns alive.

The photo is one from the summer, just to warm us up a bit! It’s of Sutton Masque morris dancers, with rag rugging in the foreground. It was taken at Manea, and was part of the Ouse Washes Festival. They kindly added to the community rag rug with their colours, green and gold. You may have seen it displayed at Wisbech library until recently.

Let me know about cultural events you have planned for next year, hopefully I can support them in some way, either through here or via the projects and networks I’m part of. I’m looking forward to 2017!
