Summer Holidays – Music and Drama

Summer Holidays – Music and Drama

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer holidays with their children. It’s a great opportunity to spend more quality time with them. The museums, library and community centres are putting on summer events (please look online and watch out for posters!) I’m concentrating on music and drama this week, as I’ve recently enjoyed a concert by the Clarkson Singers and also met a drama teacher who’s starting new classes in the area.

The Clarkson Singers are magnificent! The soloists sang particularly beautifully, and the choice of music was varied. Loc-Mai Yuen-Brooker, Director of Music for the Clarkson Singers, offers piano and singing lessons too. Look out for any event she is running, you and all your family will really enjoy it.

I have so far found four independent drama schools, just in Wisbech! My impression is that they offer different styles, so everyone can find the right place for them.

The Angles Theatre has of course been going for many years, and has the facilities to put on shows throughout the year. It is run by a small group of volunteers, in a lovely building. The current series of summer classes has started, do go and see if you can join, and of course find out about the regular classes; and make sure you see at least one show this year!

There’s also LEADA, run by Linda Eakins, who you may have seen recently at Peckover House, doing a living history display re-enacting birthday preparations, a lovely idea that really helps bring heritage alive, look for her posters at the library.
Then there is the Nine Lives Theatre Company which offers various classes at all levels, and also preparation for RADA, ISTD and other exams and certificates.

Last but not least, Jemima’s Jesters is an informal fun class offered at the Tesco community rooms; hopefully you will find a fit for you from one of these!
