Planning
After deciding on FOCUS as my word of the year, I’ve already been organised enough to do some planning to make the projects happen. I hope you’ll enjoy following the journey of this work as I mention progress throughout the year, probably asking for help along the way, while also still promoting and sharing the indie shops, artists and makers as well as the cultural and heritage assets that are the hidden gems of the area.
Planning is also ongoing for the Old Chapel at Wisbech General Cemetery, with some exciting events coming up. The next Wisbech Society talk is on Monday 3rd February, at 7.30pm, with Maggie Goodall, Education and Training Officer for SPAB – the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings – who will talk about the origins, the purpose and the work of her organisation with special reference to examples in the Wisbech area. Members free, otherwise £3, all welcome.
If you are also in planning mode and looking for a space to rent for your event or activity, the Chapel and Cemetery is a beautiful space with all amenities and is available for hire. Maybe you are a Tai Chi teacher looking for a classroom, a family looking for a space to gather for a special event, or an artist who needs a day of quiet and new inspiration, Email getintouch@wisbechgeneralcemetery.org for more details.
I see the Museum have planned an interesting line-up of events this year, their leaflet is available around town and online (WisbechMuseum.org.uk) I’m looking forward to their re-opening from February the 11th and the variety of exhibitions and activities they have organised. It’s good to see other groups getting involved too, the Museum is a great resource we could all use more of.
Is there a place you particularly enjoy visiting? Have they got events planned this year? Do let me know, I am always happy to mention them here, especially to help those readers who don’t use social media.
Other planning I have heard of so far – The Bandstand, an excellent outdoor venue in the park, run by a small band (!) of volunteers; I hope to get more details of their events later towards Spring; the Castle is open again at the end of February and Octavia Hill’s Birthplace House from 7th March, so it won’t be long before we can be out and about again. Get your diaries out, and get planning!
