Moulton Mill 2015

Moulton Mill 2015

I thought the Summer season was busy – brilliant events across the area, organised by so many, from community centres to town councils. I am already thinking about the Christmas season (as I produce a magazine and always have to think ahead, and I’m helping with the Wisbech Christmas Fayre), but I’m in danger of missing Autumn which is a lovely season and should be savoured. Along with conkers and woodland walks, there are plenty of events going on to make it just as busy as Summer.

This weekend alone there is “Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major” with songs and sketches based on Wisbech in the World wars, Friday and Saturday (tickets from Etcetera/the Post Office); then there’s the Woad Festival from the Blue Mill Project in Lincolnshire, at Moulton Mill, just up the road. It was about a year ago that I mentioned Moulton Mill as a new (to me) place to visit, in one of my first columns, so I’ll be going back to see what’s new. Run by two Lincolnshire artists, Carol Parker and Angela Daymond, this Heritage Lottery funded project aims to show visitors more about the Woad plant and its use for dying – a beautiful blue.

Continuing a heritage theme, if you’re interested in local history and want to help, the owners of Alexandra House, currently used as rentable rooms for small businesses, are interested to hear from anyone who knows something about the history of the building. Then there’s the Institute, who will also offer space for rent, who would like to hear from volunteers to help with building maintenance. Pop a note through their doors (Alexandra House is next door to the Luxe Cinema; The Institute is on Hill Street), or email me.

I’m getting ready for my crafternoons, so if you want to make your own gifts for Christmas presents, email me now for details! If you already make your own, and want a chance to sell them, don’t forget the Christmas Fayre is on Sunday this year, the 13th December, so ask me about that too and get booked in! It’s going to be a fantastic day out, I’m already looking forward to it, but will stop and enjoy Autumn first!
