Arts Alive!

Arts Alive!

I’ve talked before about funding coming to the area, which is most welcome and will provide activities and improvements which we can all enjoy. One pot that is already being spent is Arts Alive! This is giving all local libraries a menu of activities and events to choose from within a small budget. I’m part of the Wisbech Library Friends group so helped make the choices for Wisbech. My family and I enjoyed two days of graffiti last month (all the pieces produced will be on display soon) and this month, actually this Saturday, I’m helping out with the Opera Dudes evening. They come highly recommended by a number of people I’ve talked to who’ve seen them perform at other libraries, and so I’m really looking forward to it. They’re called the “Opera Dudes” which I think is brilliant! Having seen their list of songs, I would suggest that they’re using “Opera” as a word that can cover many styles of music while the quality is as high as any London opera house audience would expect; the “Dudes” suggest the fun element and that they’re not as high brow as “Opera” suggests! We’re not paying London prices though, we’re getting it for a bargain price (£5!) because of funding and using community buildings such as the library. At the time of writing, tickets were going fast so call them on 0345 045 5225, or drop in, to book, though some may be available on the door.

Talking of community spaces, back to the Institute of last week! Bringing more of it back into community use is really moving on there, and I’ll be ready to invite you to “crafternoons” for social causes soon. Do sign up to my newsletter, or pop a note through the Institute door, and I’ll make sure you hear about the projects I’m planning that you may like to get involved in. For example, I’m interested in adapting charity shop clothes; using old fabric to make new things; getting people back into traditional home crafts and sharing skills from one generation to another. All welcome.
