Christmas Events 2015
I’m seeing so many fantastic projects appearing, and more positivity. I hope we really are all coming together to support our local businesses, people and places, it makes a difference to us all. I’m involved in some of them. I have limited time and resources, as we all do, hence reducing my volunteering (which includes this column) to Wisbech, as that’s my nearest town. Though running the Twitter #fenshour, is giving me the opportunity to connect with and support all of Fenland. It is always worth volunteering, as little or as much as you like, you’ll get something from it, too. Get in touch for more ideas on what you can do.
Here’s some Christmas events for you, including shopping (don’t forget to use local food markets and shops too!)
Whittlesey has a “Christmas Crafts and Curioisities Fair” on the 22nd November, at the Ivy Leaf Club; March has their Christmas Lights switchon on November 27th, Chatteris on the 28th.
Nine Lives Theatre Company are supporting Jimmy Cricket at the Institute, Hill Street, on the 29th November, at 2pm. Get your tickets from Etcetera (01945 463440). He’ll be switching on the Christmas Lights in the Market Place later that day, too!
March’s Christmas Market on the 6th December has loads of music for you and a charity Santa Fun Run, plus market stalls and children’s entertainment.
Wisbech Christmas Fayre is on Sunday the 13th, it includes a market with over 90 great stalls – food, gifts, handmade crafts. It also will have an Ice Rink for the first time, plus Waling’s Steam Engine, Vivien the Fire Engine, real Reindeer, and plenty more to see and do throughout the Horsefair, Market Place, Market Street and the Crescent. All styles of music all day provided by local groups, too.
Apart from meeting with people about events and projects for Wisbech, I’ve been making poppies this week. Making something like that gives you a chance to stop and think; concentrating on one thing for a while is meditative and stress-relieving.
