Autumnal Equinox

Autumnal Equinox

Time is moving on fast, Summer is almost over and Autumn is on its way. Living where we do, we get to see more changes – and earlier – than in cities, as we have the farmers working hard to get the crops in and fields ready for the next one. I like hearing the combines and seeing the stacks and rolls in the fields. The air is fresher, the sky’s a different blue – it’s good to see photographers’ work on social media as they also note the changing seasons.

Autumn is however just as full of places to see and things to do, just take an extra layer!
Apart from the Heritage Open days (see later) there are other events happening too. Sunday 15th 2pm to 4.30pm there’s more music at Wisbech Bandstand in the park. (OK, yes, that’s a heritage site!) A lovely way to spend the afternoon. Elgood’s have their Beer Festival from Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd (another heritage site… Wisbech is definitely full of history!)

Also on the 22nd, further afield, is an event that really works with the season. Earth Heart Events are at Castle Acre Village Hall with an Autumn Equinox Fayre full of unique handmade, Eco and creative stalls, including natural therapies. Living closer to nature and with the seasons contributes to a relaxing way of life, helping you appreciate time going by. Not easy to do all the time, but if you pick blackberries for a pie in Autumn, or preserve elderberries now for a vitamin shot in Winter, it’s a nice way to mark the seasons changing. Living in this area, we are lucky to see the work that goes into our food and have opportunities to pick from the hedgerows, or let some wilderness into your garden – the fen soil grows great fruit.

Heritage Open Days you’ve seen me write about, but a reminder: check out HeritageOpenDays.org.uk and CapitaloftheFens.org.uk, then pickup a Wisbech Projects/Wisbech Society map – they’re all over town, see Hughes in the Market Place, Bygones just behind them on Little Church Street, and the Rose and Crown across the other side of the Market. See also the tourist information point in Etcetera, the library, Horsefair Bus Station Kiosk and the Museum, and other places but I’ve run out of space! I’ve added it as the picture again here so you know what you’re looking for.
