Secret Garden Touring Park
Firstly, I’d like to thank all the people who have supported me and what I’ve been doing in this paper and elsewhere over the years. I hope to continue to “promote the positive” of the town: its heritage, events, activities, places, shops, the people who’ve been here generations, and the newcomers. I do it to support the many who also do this – and much, much more – for the town and surrounding area. Many are not seen, or want to be seen, but know that you are appreciated.
This week is about a lovely place just out of town, called the Secret Garden Touring Park (other campsites and touring parks are available). Its address is Mile Tree Lane PE13 4TR but if you go along North Brink and Barton Road you will see signs to it, as it’s not a well kept secret…!
The grounds are open to the public for a walk around or a picnic, not just to those staying there, and it’s also worth a visit for the shop as it has a variety of local suppliers, including beer and honey!
They’re been going since 2010 and my first visit was to their inaugural Midsummer Food and Craft Fair, with crafts and suppliers of lovely local food and drink. This year’s event will be on Saturday 22nd June 10am to 4pm.
It is fantastic to see those relationships built over the years and still going strong today – it’s very encouraging to see a local business support others get started.
It’s not just at events or in the shop (open all year round) that the Secret Garden provide a space for others, they also support groups like the “Shedders and Fixers”, people who run Bushcraft courses, and others who keep hives and run Beekeeping courses. Oh, and a Distillery…
If that’s not enough, they have a Beer and Sausage tasting most Saturdays between the start of March and the end of October, all from local producers. A tasty way to support local and spend a summer evening.
