Look Up!

I popped into Wisbech today to get some photos for the Arts Trail. We want to not only share the creative work to the world, but views of the town too.
As the clouds cleared and some sunshine came, I took some shots of interesting small details (that will look better on small social media platforms than the usual views). I didn’t realise how many I would find, it was really interesting to look around at the architecture and find new things to see.
I know I’ve said before to visit your town like a tourist, but I also suggest you look up more, find the small details in chimneys, walls, rooflines. I wanted to get something about the Crescent area, but it’s of course a long stretch of houses so doesn’t work well as a small picture, so I looked at the doors. Pretty much everyone has a different door knocker, all were surprisingly interesting. I’m going to look up “door furniture” and see what history I can find out. I took some photos, so if you live in that area, maybe your door knocker will show up on our Instagram or Twitter account (@WisbechArts)!
I also bumped into one of the artists who is going to contribute to the Trail (not literally bumped, 2m distancing observed). He will demonstrate his work via video to inspire us all to learn a new skill or take part in more creative events, even if that’s mostly online or open air at the moment.
We’ve already received poetry and art pieces, including from the Fenland Poet Laureate. A local clay and nature artist is going to be producing something for inspiration as well. Go to WisbechArtSpace.com to see some of what we have already received and get more information on how to contribute yourself. Everyone welcome.

If the good weather continues and you’re still on furlough or get time in a lunch break, maybe spend it slowly walking through the quieter areas and looking up. If you take a photo, of details or of big skies, send it in! ArtsTrail@WisbechArtSpace.com

I congratulate the Wisbech and Fenland Museum on also getting funding and look forward to their arts project over the Summer, when we will (hopefully) see more arts and cultural places open and put on activities so I can write about them here!
