Growing Your Own
Thankyou to everyone who responded to the last column, Asta was very pleased to see new people join Walsoken Walking Library, it’s fantastic to see the response of all those participating and enjoying reading and sharing. Thankyou to Gorefield Primary, Peckover Primary and Marshland High School for their support, too! There’s a merry band of helpers putting out books, so look out down your street and join up via Facebook to share when you find a pack!
I’ve really enjoyed helping Asta get her project started and she has a great team around her. I’m proud to be supporting a new charitable project at this difficult time. Exactly what Wisbech Projects CIC was set up to do, it’s good we can still help even in lockdown.
We’re all adapting to the changing times and I’ve been inspired by all the independent businesses changing their working model to a new way of doing things. I mentioned FenSpirits before – producing hand sanitiser from their alcohol – when this is over, I’ll be making sure my gin-loving friends get a gift or two from there! To go along with that, the food delivery services we now have covers a fantastic range of locally grown fruit and veg, as well as takeaways from our favourite cafes and restaurants (I must mention the efforts of Bygone’s Cafe – they are working all hours, almost everyday, to provide their service to their usual customers and beyond, amazing. 01945 580866.)
Do an online search to find your favourite cafe, restaurant or food market, and give them a call.
Or if you don’t use the internet, here’s some I know of: The Orchard Tea Room is still making amazing cakes to order, as well as their farm shop being open, find them on Redmoor Lane, or call 07527046184. Smiths, just past Tesco are getting great reviews, too, their number is 01945 584366
The market is still operating for food sales, so worth popping down if you can, (veg, cheese and more) and The Royal Blue Meat Company on Market Place are also doing deliveries, 01945 588885.
If you want to grow your own, I can recommend Turners of Gorefield. They have Roses of course, but also fruit trees and fruit and vegetable plug plants, they are great prices and growing well! 07809 240004.
There are many more, call friends and family for recommendations!
